Energy Saving Homes – Reduce Your Utility Bills

As energy costs increase year after year, more and more consumers are becoming interested in energy saving homes as a means of saving power costs and reducing their overall monthly living expenses. Consumers can take a holistic approach to being energy efficient by only purchasing energy saving appliances for their home. You can save as much as 15% using new appliances with the energy saver label in your house.

The construction of the house is also important to save power as well. New homes should be built with energy saving materials that take advantage of higher insulation values, and well sealed windows and walls. An energy saving home with windows facing south will receive heat from the sun in the winter and be in the shade during the hot summer months. Homes such as these can save a great deal on power costs.

Houses that are well sealed to prevent the escape of heat in the winter time and the loss of cool air in the summer also need to have fresh air intakes to replace stale air and air that has been used for combustion by the furnace to heat the home. Fresh air intake will also ensure a cleaner, less polluting furnace in the house providing higher energy output from the furnace, further saving heating costs. There are many books available on energy saving techniques for new houses as well as existing houses that are being renovated.
