June 01, 2005 By: Sunny Thaver Renovating Your House - Should You Move? Many people are faced with the age-old problem of whether they should move to a new home or should you consider renovating your house . This is actually quite a complex decision to make and many people will make an emotional decision to move or to renovate, instead of a dollars and sense decision. Sometimes we just get that itch and feel that we need to move to a new house and renovation of the current home is just not a consideration. Other people like their neighbourhood so much that they cannot bear to move and so the renovation of an existing home is really the only alternative. There are other more practical reasons as well to consider before you make the decision before renovating your home or moving. The cost to move to a new home is not inexpensive. Add up the real estate fee’s, the legal costs, and the taxes you have to pay and you may find it cheaper to renovate the house. Most people forget to consider that they cannot just move their current belongings into the new home. Some rooms will need paint, others will need new carpet or hardwood flooring, and most likely you will need new window coverings. Sounds almost like renovation, and this is without the mention of the yard or outside of the house. When you renovate your existing home, there are expenses and there is usually a mess for some period of time, however it is your home and you control the speed of the renovation and how much of the house is involved at one time. Another large issue is the expense of renovation. Although consumers can spend a great deal of money on renovating their homes, they can control how quickly it gets done and how quickly the money flows out. When you renovate, you still stay in the same neighbourhood with all of the same neighbours and you can spend all that money you would have given to the real estate agent and the lawyer on your house.
