Home Renovation Guides – Neighbourhood Design

A number of home owner organizations have decided to develop guidelines that will ensure the overall charm and beauty of their streets are maintained. These guidelines for houses are usually put in place with the support of the homeowners on your street as well as the city that you live in. These home renovation guides have the objective of preventing any renovations or changes to the street that would reduce the value of the homes and the property of the homeowners on that street.

While a home renovation guide may seem a bit controlling, most home owners would agree that these guides are not so draconian that they are impossible to live with, while at the same time they do enhance the value of the homes. Buyers can purchase homes on the street and initiate renovations following the guides with the approval of the neighbours and the city. The city is usually a strong sponsor of these renovation guides since it makes their job a lot easier if the guidelines are spelled out ahead of time. Homeowners need only refer to the guide, and as long as the guide is followed, they know that their renovation project will be approved without too much difficulty.

Sometimes homeowners feel that it stifles creativity in renovations in houses when they are forced to abide by guidelines that have been developed by the city or a group of owners. For the most part everyone does benefit as long as the guidelines are not too stringent. Everyone’s house values will increase and ultimately everyone makes a profit when the sell their homes.
