Residential Building Plans – Common Standards

In most cities and regions were there are twin cities or common regional areas under separate city governments, builders are required to submit residential building plans to each city and regional government for approval even though the house designs and construction plans are exactly the same for each residential area. This extra work takes a great deal of time and adds extra cost to for the builder to seek approvals, not to mention the duplicate approval processes with in the city departments.

Recently a few cities have begun to form large regional governments for the purposes of reducing the costs to the city as well as for the builders who are submitting plans. Now they only have to submit a residential building plan once to the regional government for approval and they will be able to build a home with the same residential design in multiple areas of the city without the need to further approve the building designs. Overall it is a win, win situation for the consumers since suburban city taxes will be reduced or at least not rise as fast, as well as the builder will be able to reduce their costs and pass along these savings to customers.

Construction techniques are common across the region as well, further contributing to cost savings for the consumer. Builders and consumers should keep in mind that they will need site approvals on an individual basis before construction of roads; sewers and other services can begin. Neighbourhood designs will usually be unique at each location even in if the building designs have been standardized across the city.
