March 08, 2006 By: Sunny Thaver Green Building Designs – Save Energy & DollarsSince the energy crisis in the middle 70’s, green building designs have taken on more importance for consumers and businesses to conserve energy and reduce the costs of the utilities that they consume as well as the environment impact they cause. Consumers are primarily concerned about their wallet, and any time you can save energy means more money in their wallet. Design plans for new homes since the beginning of the 80’s has focused on this mantra, while at the same time having the added benefit of providing environmental savings as well. Many people do not realize that the money to clean up environmental spills and other environment damage comes straight out of the taxes they pay, so any improvements in energy savings also translate to environmental savings as well. Green building designs incorporate a number of features that add to the energy reduction of the home. Windows designed with low-E glass have provided almost a 30 percent increase in energy savings. Improved insulation designed into building walls and ceilings as well as basement walls to four feet below grade have provided significant energy savings. These green design plans contribute to less coal fired hydro generation plants and affects the environment for miles around in a positive manner. In addition, the new energy saving light bulbs can be added which are also part of the green building design plan. Also see; vacation home plans.About
