Concrete Building Solutions – Innovative Alternatives

There are a number of concrete building solutions available to builders who want to build homes using concrete instead of the traditional stick or lumber constructed homes. The solutions available to builders have various advantages. There are modular concrete systems, which involve forming, and setting at the factory, then the concrete is transported by truck to the job site and lifted in place by a crane. ICF or insulating concrete forms are similar however they are poured on site and use insulating material to provide the form for the cement as it is being poured. These cement forms stay in place after the concrete building solution has set and provide insulation for the walls.

Panel systems and pre-cast concrete homes are made of cement walls, floors and ceilings that are formed and poured at the factory. Each concrete wall is re-enforced with re-enforcing bars, all electrical conduits are placed in the walls before the cement is poured as are the pipes for water and sewer. Once the concrete has set, they are lifted onto flatbed transport trucks and shipped to the construction site. Cranes will lift them onto the foundation and then workmen will attached them to the foundation and to each other. Plumbers and electricians will them complete their usual work.

One of the advantages of constructing concrete buildings for residential homes is that these solutions will provide much more privacy in terms of sounds carried from other homes. This concrete insulation can be quite valuable to condo dwellers whose homes are attached to each other. Residents living in noisy neighbour hoods or close to a high way will also appreciate the quiet that buildings using concrete construction techniques provide.
