Beach House Plan – Birmingham-Based Architectural Designs

Coastal Living Magazine’s March/April edition features beach house plans designed by the Birmingham-based architectural firm of Dungan Nequette. The towering three-level, 1,450 square foot design called Heron’s Nest is ideal for small coastal sites with a footprint of 22’ by 22’ -- answering the challenges often posed by width and depth limitations of view-oriented lots.

The ground floor of Heron’s Nest features a private and practical bunkhouse style sleeping area, ideal for youngsters or a visiting family. The built-in media niche opens into a dining area that can double as a place for games and rainy day entertainment. A laundry nook is conveniently located on this level, as is outdoor closet storage for sandy toys and shoes, tucked away under ample covered porches.

The main family level, on the second level, enjoys an unencumbered view of sand, sea and sky through wrap-around windows, and from the outdoor deck that extends the living room into nature.

The third floor master suite crowns the Nest with 10-ft. ceilings and a wall of windows, which add to its expansive feel. Completing the suite is built-in office space and a private Juliet balcony with French doors opening to coastal breezes. A convenient laundry shoot sends washables down to the ground floor.

Dungan Nequette Architects, based in Birmingham, Alabama, is recognized for introducing original design perspectives and progressive ideas to the marketplace.
