Homebuilder Design Award – Rosemullion Homes

Less than three months after winning a category in the UK Property Marketing Design Awards, Rosemullion Homes has been awarded 2 citations in the National Homebuilder Design Awards 2000.

'The citations were for 'Best New Housing Project' in respect of Grenville Meadows, Lostwithiel and 'Best House in England' - being a second accolade for the Arundell II house type which also won a bronze award for Best House in the What House? Awards in November last year.

The National Homebuilder Design Awards were established by Custom Publishing, producers of Planahome - The Book of Home Plans. The judges, who included Michael Manser - former President of the Royal Institute of British Architects and David Mote - director of the House Builders' Federation, were looking for outstanding examples of contemporary design, taking into account local conditions and materials. A condition of each entry was for the home or scheme to be designed by a registered Architect. Rosemullion Director Bruce Brooke-Smith was congratulated by Michael Manser at the awards ceremony at London's Lanchnark Hotel recently.

The Planahome entry covering Rosemullion's Grenville Meadows development, states that in addition to the many historic buildings in the town, Lostwithiel now "has a new development that has earned a citation for having a collection of houses that make a positive contribution to the environment by reflecting the traditional local vernacular." The same article states "Rosemullion's architects, Catchfrench Design, have captured the feel of the town's period properties without aping them".

The entry about the citation for the Arundell II, design by Truro architects, Lilly Lewarne Partnership says "its elevations have a classical simplicity and symmetry" and that "the floor plans are simple and functional with all the principal reception rooms overlooking the rear garden and the luxury of a spacious hall in the central core of the house". Originally built at Arundell Place, Truro the house has since been built at Woodland Heights, Truro and most recently at Grenville Meadows, Lostwithiel where architects Catchfrench Design of St. Germans developed a variation of the design with a stone, brick and granite facade in keeping with the less formal atmosphere of this ancient town.
